Michelle Dykes-Anderson

Director

Michelle is UBMS Director.  She has worked with Upward Bound programs since 2000, in various capacities.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown College, master of art degree in mental health counseling from Eastern Kentucky University, master of education in learning and behavior disorders from Western Kentucky University, and doctorate in educational policy studies and evaluation from University of Kentucky.  She’s married to Sam and has a dog named Stella.  Michelle was a first-generation college student, which motivates her to help students prepare for and be successful in college.

Jennifer Brackett

 

Educational Specialist

Jennifer Brackett is the Education Specialist for the Upward Bound Math Science program. She also taught the College Preparation course this summer.  She advises the Senior/Bridge students in the program for college readiness. She also works alongside another TRIO program at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, Academic Advantage. She attended Lincoln Memorial University to obtain her bachelor degree in Education. She has been with the UBMS since February 1, 2013 and enjoys helping students achieve their goals.

Amanda Creech

Instructional Specialist

Amanda Creech is the Instructional Specialist here at Upward Bound Math Science. Amanda is originally from northern Kentucky where she received her Bachelors of Science in Biology at Northern Kentucky University. This is Amanda’s second summer with UBMS. She had a wonderful and exciting summer with the UBMS students. Amanda taught the Biology Water Lab Class this summer where the students sampled local water ways to test water quality. Students also tested to see if bottled water is better quality than tap water; make sure you check out the students’ results page to find out!

My name is Jennifer Ann Carmical and I have lived in Harlan for 25 years, since I married my husband Vince who is a Harlan native. I am originally from Tomahawk, KY which is in Martin County. Vince and I were long-haul truck drivers for 18 years, until I decided to go back to school. I am currently half-way through pharmacy school at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, and this is my second year working for UBMS. My only child is a Shih-Tzu named Muffin.
